Insights / Second opinion
Getting a second opinion from a specialist in China
A second opinion is a specialist reviewing your records and giving a written view on the diagnosis or treatment plan. It can be done remotely, before anyone books a flight.
WELLIN Patient Care Team. Updated 29 October 2026.
When it is worth asking
- You have been told a cancer cannot be operated on, or that treatment options have run out
- A major operation has been recommended and you want an independent view first
- The cancer has progressed on the current treatment
- You are considering spending a large amount on treatment abroad and want to know if it is realistic
A second opinion may confirm the existing plan. That is also a useful answer.
What to send
The opinion can only be as good as the records. A specialist will usually need:
- Pathology reports, including any gene or marker tests
- Scan reports and, where possible, the image files themselves
- A treatment history with dates and how the disease responded
- Recent blood tests and current medicines
- The specific question you want answered
We help organise and translate these, and tell you what is missing before anything goes to a hospital.
What you get back
A written opinion from the specialist, which we explain to you. If the specialist thinks an in-person assessment in China makes sense, they will say so, and we can then ask the hospital for a quote.
What it costs
Remote specialist consultations / MDT start from US$300, including the hospital consultation fee and WELLIN professional service fee. An itemised breakdown is provided before payment. If you sign an agreement for treatment services, the WELLIN professional service fee portion is credited in full against the professional service fee for treatment. The hospital consultation fee is not credited. See fees.
What it cannot do
A remote opinion is based only on the records sent. It does not replace an examination, and the specialist may ask for more tests before giving a firm view. It is not an offer of treatment.
