Planning the total cost of treatment in China

The hospital's quote is only part of the cost. This is how to build a realistic budget before deciding.

WELLIN Patient Care Team. Updated 29 October 2026.

Get a written, itemised quote

Prices depend on the diagnosis, the treatment plan and the hospital. General comparisons between countries are not a quote. Ask the hospital, after it has reviewed the records, for an itemised estimate covering:

  • Consultations and tests on arrival
  • The treatment itself, including medicines
  • Hospital stay, if any
  • Follow-up visits and medicines to take home

Ask what happens to the cost if the plan changes or there are complications, and whether a deposit is needed.

Prepare a clear plan before booking

  • Bring recent tests and scans; the hospital decides which it can use and which must be repeated
  • Get the hospital's view remotely before travelling, so the trip has a clear purpose
  • Ask your insurer in writing what it will cover, before you go
