Cardiovascular treatment in China: planning questions

Patients considering cardiovascular care in China should first ask their local clinician whether travel is medically appropriate. Stable cases may require a specialist opinion; urgent symptoms require local emergency care.

Planning note

Check the specific department, responsible clinician and international appointment route. Hospital suitability must be assessed for the individual case.

Cardiovascular conditions and China's treatment options

Coronary artery disease (CAD) — angina and heart attacks

Ask the cardiologist whether angiography, medication, an intervention or surgery is appropriate, and request a written hospital estimate for the recommended plan.

  • Request an itemised written estimate from the hospital for your specific diagnosis and plan. Include medicines, tests, admission, follow-up and travel costs; generic country-level price comparisons are not a personal quotation.

Ask a licensed physician to confirm which options are appropriate for the diagnosis, prior treatment and current condition. Availability, eligibility, benefits and risks require case-specific hospital assessment.

Valvular heart disease

Arrhythmia — atrial fibrillation and complex cases

A cardiologist should explain whether catheter ablation is appropriate for the individual case and how it affects ongoing medication and monitoring. Do not stop anticoagulation or other prescribed medicines without the treating physician’s advice.

Heart failure

Advanced heart failure requires an individual assessment by a qualified cardiac team. Ask about the proposed treatment, alternatives, eligibility, risks and continuity of care before planning travel.

Which hospital for cardiovascular conditions?

  • Ask the hospital and your insurer separately, in writing, about payment methods, coverage, pre-authorisation and reimbursement documents. Coverage and hospital acceptance are subject to their confirmation.
  • Confirm the relevant cardiovascular department, language support, appointment access and clinical suitability with the hospital.

What to prepare before coming to China for cardiac care

  1. Gather your cardiac records

ECGs (include recent and historical), echocardiogram reports, stress test results, existing CT coronary angiography or cardiac catheterisation reports, Holter monitor results if relevant. Medication list including doses.

  2. Remote case review

WELLIN can help organise the initial enquiry. The selected hospital confirms the clinician, consultation scope, required records and separate fees before any specialist review is booked.

  3. Travel and timing

Ask the treating clinician whether flying is safe. Unstable symptoms require local emergency care. Confirm hospital acceptance and current entry requirements before making travel arrangements.
